Chicken production and duck production went up by 4.61 per cent and 2.08 per cent respectively. the Filipino duck inventory went up because of favourable weather conditions and sufficient water supply.

This year too saw a rise in poultry production as a result of increase in the number of laying flocks and the sustained demand for eggs. Hence, poultry production rose 4.37 per cent in 2013.

In 2012, duck egg production rose 5.52 per cent. Increased acquisition of laying flocks and higher egg-laying efficiency ratio were cited in almost all regions, according to the USDA's International Egg and Poultry review for 9 April 2013.

On 1 July 2012, about 55 per cent of the country's total chicken population consisted of broilers and egg layers in commercial farms. Native chickens comprised about 45 per cent of the total chicken inventory.

The top three chicken producing regions during 2012 were Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Northern Mindanao.

During January to June 2012, of the total country's egg production, 82.20 per cent were produced in commercial farms while 17.8 per cent came from native chickens raised in backyard farms. Around 69 per cent of the country's top three producing regions, which were Calabarzon, Central Luzon and Central Visayas.

Some of the major countries to which Filipino poultry meat was exported were Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Germany. In 2012, exports were valued at around US$33.3 million.
