Import Tariff Lifted to Address Bird Flu Shortfall
MEXICO – The Ministry of Economics has amended trade tariff agreements on poultry meat imports entering the country in an effort to relieve supply concerns following the latest avian influenza outbreaks.

By: A quota of 3,000 tonnes of poultry meat has been agreed on imports of frozen, chilled and fresh products.
The quota is being distributed in two stages. The first 50 per cent is to be allocated on a first come first served basis with the final 50 per cent chosen by the Ministry of Economics according to assessments made by the government over a 30-day period.
Severe supply crises have centred on the regions of Jalisco and Guanajuato. The limited tariff lift is applicable to any imported chicken until the set quota of 3,000 tonnes is reached.
