Biomin at MycoRed International Conference
ITALY - More than 300 participants from about 50 countries worldwide took part in the final ISM - MycoRed International Conference 'Europe 2013' held in Martina Franca in Apulia from 27 to 31 May, 2013.Speakers from around the globe discussed the general objective of the conference and exchanged knowledge on the topic of "Novel integrated strategies for worldwide mycotoxin reduction in the food and feed chain". Biomin contributed to the scientific program with several lectures.
Michaela Thamhesl presented the topic of catabolism of ergopeptides by Rhodococcus erythropolis MTHt3 enzymes and Christina Schwab talked about the insidious occurrence of mycotoxins and their effective counteraction.
In addition, research partners from the CD laboratory for Mycotoxin metabolism, IFA Tulln also presented their research work. Heidi Schwartz talked about the different biomarkers used to evaluate the enzymatic detoxification of fumonisins in farm animals and Franz Berthiller shared on the bioavailability of masked mycotoxins. Irene Schöners' poster on the determination and structures elucidation of ergot alkaloid metabolite formed by microbial and enzymatic degradation was selected for an oral presentation.
Other posters by Biomin researchers included abstracts showing the screening of microorganism to degrade ergot alkaloids and the global mycotoxin survey by Verena Klingenbrunner and Karin Nährer. Besides an interesting conference and fruitful discussions, time was set aside to visit the attractive Apulian corners and enjoy dinners combined with exchanging professional experience with experts from around the world.
