Further Newcastle Disease Confirmed in Cyprus

CYPRUS – Authorities have confirmed a further outbreak of Newcastle disease in laying hens in the village of Vrysoulles.

Notification was received by the Cyprus Veterinary Services in Nicosia on Friday after 113 chickens were declared ‘susceptible’.

All birds have subsequently been destroyed.

Initially, 83 cases were recorded with 80 birds dying as a result of infection.

The chickens were in a backyard holding and isolated with APMV-1 on 3 September 2013.

The outbreak was in the east of the country in Ammochostos.
