West Nile Virus Found in Sarajevo Wild Bird
BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA - West Nile Fever virus has been found in a hooded crow, one of six found dead in a park in Sarajevo.The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 12 September to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
According to the report, several dead hooded crows (Corvus cornix; Corvidae) were found in parks in urban area of Sarajevo. Some of them were already in decay but samples were taken from six crows and sent to the laboratory for testing. One tested positive for the virus.
This is the first occurrence of the disease in the country.
As well as disnfection of the area, controls will be carreid out on arthropods and wildlife reservoirs.
