Australia Completes Decontamination, Disinfection Against H7N2 Bird Flu

AUSTRALIA - The Australian veterinary authorities reported that there have been no further outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreaks in the country.

According to follow-up report no. 6 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), Decontamination and disinfection were completed on 21 November 2013.

Appropriate surveillance has been completed to demonstrate that the event of HPAI has been eradicated.

On 21 February 2014, Australia declared having resumed its status as a country free from HPAI in accordance with Article 10.4.4 of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

Contact with wild species has been identified as the major cause of the outbreaks.
