US Egg Producers Step Back from Egg Bill, Welfare Campaign Group
US - United Egg Producers (UEP) has ended its support of The Egg Bill and agreed with an animal rights group not to continue their agreement. On its relationship with Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), UEP has told ThePoultrySite that the two organisations have agreed not to extend their Memo of Understanding (MOU) or any formal connection that existed up until now.
With the Farm Bill debate concluded, UEP is now focused on exploring a range of options with the objective of delivering much-needed business certainty to America’s egg farmers.
On the Egg Bill, UEP says members should feel proud of the tremendous efforts over the past two years with its endeavours to pass the Bill. With the Farm Bill now concluded, UEP now confirms that it has ceased efforts to pass the Egg Bill.
Enriched colony housing represents the future of this vibrant industry, according to UEP, and it is encouraged to see these contemporary houses being constructed throughout the United States.
The organisation adds that it remains dedicated to partnering with members, allies and other stakeholders in hope of achieving a workable solution of transitioning the industry towards Enriched Colony housing in a manner and time-frame that best suits the nation's egg farmer members.
