Viet Nam Reports Seven Outbreaks of H5N1 Bird Flu
VIET NAM - The Vietnamese veterinary authorities have reported seven outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the provinces of Can Tho, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Vinh Long and Thanh Hoa.The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 6 on 22 February. The affected population comprises birds.
A total of 19,962 birds were found susceptible, out of which 10356 cases and deaths were reported. The remaining 9,606 birds were destroyed.
Several control measures such as stamping out, movement control inside the country, vaccination in response to the outbreak(s) and disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s). The affected birds did not receive treatment.
