Aviagen Veterinarian Presents at NPIP Workshop
US - The 2014 National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) Salmonella Diagnostic Workshop was held at the University of Georgia, Poultry Diagnostic Research Center (PDRC) on 4 to 7 March.

The workshop provided training on conducting the Salmonella test procedures required to meet the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) classifications relating to flock status.
Furthermore, and in compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), testing performed by authorized laboratories (such as the Aviagen® labs in Crossville, TN, and Elkmont, AL) must be run and/or overseen by technicians who have attended and successfully completed the NPIP workshops for every classification.
Dr Eric Jensen, Aviagen Grandparent Veterinarian, presented Salmonella Control from a Primary Breeder’s Perspective. His presentation gave an overview of the poultry primary breeder industry, the demands on the industry to provide product that is free of Salmonella, and the importance of the diagnostic test procedures being taught at the workshop to support this effort.
USDA/NPIP is a national programme in collaboration with state and federal departments of agriculture and industry representatives. The main objective of this programme is to use new diagnostic technology to effectively improve poultry and poultry products throughout the United States.
"Aviagen and the NPIP share a common goal to ensure the health of poultry primary breeding flocks through standardized testing, as well as management and biosecurity practices," said Dr Jensen.
