GMA News reports that in a statement, Agriculture Undersecretary for Livestock Jose Reaño said prices of dressed chicken in local markets this week were between P135 and P140 per kilo.

"The supply of chicken has began to stabilize. As early as the last week of July, with the intervention of the DA, damaged chicken farms in Southern Luzon have been repaired and operations in chicken farms are normalizing," Mr Reaño said.

He noted that chicken suppliers from Region 3 – the primary source of chicken meat – have pumped up their operations, resulting in additional supply. He added that it usually takes 29 to 31 days before poultry can be harvested.

On the other hand, egg supply and prices will only start to normalise by December, Mr Reaño noted. He explained that it usually takes five to six months for layers to develop into the "normal laying" stage.
