New Outbreak of Newcastle Disease in Sweden

SWEDEN - There has been one new outbreak of Newcastle disease confirmed in the Ostergotlands Lan region of Sweden.

The outbreak took place in an establishment with 14,000 laying hens, kept indoors.

There was a history of egg drop. A protection zone (3 km) and a surveillance zone (10 km) has been put in place around the farm.

All other measures according to Directive 92/66/EEC and the national legislation were applied.

All of the 14,000 birds have been destroyed.

According to Article 10.9.3. of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code (2014), Sweden declares regaining its Newcastle disease free status as of 6th October 2014.

The source of the outbreak is still unknown.
