Small Chicken Flock Management Class
US - A small chicken flock management class will be presented on Tuesday 25 November at the Spalding County Extension office in Griffin, Georgia.Sponsored by University of Georgia Extension, the workshop is the fifth in a series of sustainable agriculture workshops presented by the Spalding County office.
Wade Hutcheson, UGA Extension agent for Spalding County, will present topics pertaining to the maintenance of small flocks, breeds and breeding, feeds and feeding, housing, behaviour and management, and prevention of diseases and pests.
Organic poultry and egg production will also be covered as well as the effects of local zoning and other ordinances on the sale of eggs and meat.
Georgia Extension researchers from the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences will also share their expertise on small flock management.
UGA Extension poultry scientists, Casey Ritz and Claudia Dunkley, will be among the presenters.
Jay Averett, a small flock producer from The Farm at Meadowlark Gardens, will also provide updates on small flock management.
Lee Lancaster, compliance specialist from the Georgia Department of Agriculture, and Chad Jacobs, director of community development for Spalding County, will also attend the workshop.
Check-in begins at 8:00am, and the workshop will wrap up at 3:30pm with a question-and-answer session and evaluation. The class will be held at the Spalding Extension office at 835 Memorial Drive in Griffin.
