Avian Influenza Reported in Viet Nam
VIET NAM - There have been three new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza, H5, detected and confirmed in the Vinh Long and Tra Vinh regions of the country between 29 November and 5 December.The outbreaks, which took place in villages in the named areas, resulted in 987 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza, according to the national veterinary authority in an Immediate Notification dated 12 December to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
In all, 760 birds died as a result and a further 447 were destroyed.
The source of the outbreak is still unknown.
The last occurrence of avian influenza in Viet Nam is given as October 2014.
