Equipment Company Rejects Battery Hen Allegations
INDIA – A farm equipment provider has refuted allegations over being issued high court notice regarding plans for an egg battery farm.Big Dutchman denied receiving a letter from Allahabad high court relating to the alleged development of a 150,000 bird “barren wire battery cage farm” in western Upper Pradesh after the story appeared in national Indian media.
Accusations came from the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO) as part of an ongoing Indian poultry welfare debate.
Referring to an FIAO press release, Big Dutchman said: “We would like to point out that at no point have we actually received a court notice as stipulated in this “press release”.”
“Secondly, please be informed that we do not have any project with a company in Uttar Pradesh to establish a 150,000 egg laying hen farm.”
Pictures circulated with the press release (pictured) depicted hens in cages not sold by Big Dutchman, a spokesman added.
