Further Details Emerge of British Columbia Bird Flu Outbreak
CANADA - The latest outbreak of highly pathogenic avian flu in domestic poultry is in the same region of British Columbia - the Fraser Valley - but the H5N1 virus variant has been identified in this case.

By: The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 6 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
It offers more detail on the already reported outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in British Columbia.
It started in a backyard flock of 'non-commercial semi-confinement chicken laying hens' in Chilliwack. Of the 94 birds in the flock, 81 died and the rest have been destroyed.
The usual measures have been introduced to prevent further spread of the virus.
The presence of the H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus has been confirmed. This is the first time this variant has been identified in the country.
