Cautious Optimism for Integrated Virginia Poultry Unit
US – Officials are “cautiously optimistic” about an integrated poultry production complex in Virginia.Vice chairman representing the Staunton River Magisterial District, Elton Blackstock queried the interest Pittsylvania locals would have for job offered by a vertically integrated complex, reports GoDanRiver.
This is despite a feasibility forecasting the generation of $476 million and 1,200 jobs.
But he said: “I see this as a way to supplement that income that the tobacco farmers have lost.”
Plans include a hatchery, feed mill and processing plant.
Supervisor Jessie Barksdale welcomed the study’s findings, voicing support for a complex in the county.
“I would support it because we don’t have a whole lot of projects lined up or businesses beating down the door to come here,” said Mrs Barksdale. “I think it’s worth a try.”
“It looks like we have the infrastructure and the land, that’s what makes it a perfect fit.”
