The National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal found positive samples in RT-PCR and Real time RT-PCR H5N1 AIV from Sari ka Purva, Block Shukul Bazar, district Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh.

Avian influenza was notified on March 13, 2015 at district Amethi of Uttar Pradesh and the state was informed by the department of animal husbandry, dairying & fisheries, Indian ministry of agriculture to intensify surveillance throughout the state.

Control and containment operations started on 14 March 2015 by carrying out culling, mopping, cleaning and disinfection in a one km radius of epicenter which was over by 18 March 2015.

The department has issued the post operation surveillance plan (POSP) on 15 March 2015 which will be continued for a period of three months from the date of issue of sanitization certificate.

Central government requested the state send details on what was contained in the epicentre of a 1-km and 10-km radius. Names and numbers of villages, number of rapid response teams and specific location of epicentres.

In addition to the culling, surveillance was also carried out over radius up to 10 kilometres from the epicentrer.
