More Outbreaks of Bird Flu in Burkina Faso
BURKINA FASO - Seven new outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported as the disease spreads to the south-west of the country.According to Follow-up Report No.1 dated 20 April from the veterinary authority to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), there were seven new outbreaks of high-path H5N1 avian flu in the country. The first started on 30 March and the rest on 10 April.
Three of the outbreaks were in the previously-affected province of Kadiogo but there were also cases in Poni, Houet and Boulkiemde.
Four farms were affected - three with laying hens and one with young chicks – together with three backyard flocks of mixed poultry.
In total, 49,718 were affected; 11,308 died and 4,122 were slaughtered.
