Russians Block Canadian Poultry Meat over Bird Flu
RUSSIA - Russian food safety authorities have placed temporary restrictions on the import of live poultry and poultry products from Oxford County in Canada because of concerns over avian influenza.

By: A block has been put on live poultry, hatching eggs, poultry meat and other poultry products that have not undergone heat treatment to 70°C.
Rosselkhoznador has also put an embargo on the import of feed additives for poultry together with second-hand equipment that is used for keeping slaughter and processing birds, down and feathers from Oxford County.
The veterinary authority has now called on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to inform them of the measures that are being taken to prevent the spread of the disease.
The CFIA said that preliminary testing by the Province of Ontario had confirmed the presence of H5N2 avian influenza on a turkey farm in Oxford County, Ontario.
The CFIA said it had put in place all necessary resources to manage the situation and it was continuing to work closely with the Province of Ontario, the owners of the infected birds, and the poultry industry to manage the outbreak.
