Two Further Avian Flu Outbreaks in US
US - There have been two more confirmed outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in Iowa.

By: The latest outbreaks, confirmed by the US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) on 21 May, bring the total number of disease detections to 179.
Over 40 million birds have now been affected by the disease, with the number now standing at 40,721,073.
The latest two outbreaks both occurred in commercial turkey flocks:
- Iowa, Calhoun county - 14,400 commercial turkeys;
- Iowa, Sac county - 100,000 commercial turkeys.
The new outbreaks bring the total number of confirmed detections in Iowa to 56, with 26,989,300 bird affected in this hard-hit state.
Unconfirmed outbreaks continue to be reported by Iowa's state government, with the latest report affecting 21,000 birds on a turkey farm in Pocahontas county. Confirmation of the outbreak by the APHIS laboratories is pending.
New outbreaks have not been confirmed in any other state since 18 May.
