The outbreaks affected six backyard and nine farm premises in the Plateau and Kano regions. Mostly layers were affected, but also some broilers and turkeys.

Nearly 160,000 birds were destroyed and another 3831 died from the disease.

Poor farm biosecurity has again been implicated in the spread of the outbreaks.
