UK Egg Sales Continue to Grow
UK - Egg sales have continued to soar in 2016, building on several years of strong growth, according to new data from the British egg industry.Retail egg sales (volume) have increased by 3.7 per cent year-on-year, according to Kantar Worldpanel data looking at the 52 weeks ending 9 October 2016. The increase is the equivalent of around 204 million eggs.
A total of 12.5 billion eggs are expected to be eaten in the UK this year, which is around 34 million every day, meaning total consumption is at its highest level since the early 1980s.
Andrew Joret, British Egg Industry Council Chairman, said: “Eggs are on trend, with consumption soaring among consumers who are recognising their speed, convenience, versatility and cost effectiveness, but also increasingly their health credentials.”
