Mountaire Vet Thinks ‘Pendulum’ Will Fall in the Middle of Poultry Antibiotic Debate

GLOBAL - While some US poultry companies are going “no antibiotics ever” and others are defending their right to use all FDA-approved medications to protect flock health, one veterinarian thinks it’s only a matter of time before this swinging pendulum comes to rest in the middle.

“Normally gravity takes over and [the pendulum] ends up in the middle — and the middle satisfies most consumers,” said Don Ritter, DVM, Mountaire Farms, in a recent interview with Poultry Health Today.

He described the “middle” as being a certified program verifying responsible antibiotic management.
