Thai Eggs to Hit Korean Shelves Next Week
SOUTH KOREA - Eggs from Thailand will be imported amid soaring prices here in the wake of another outbreak of avian influenza.According to The Chosunilbo, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said Tuesday that a total of 2 million fresh eggs will be available in the country early next week.
Each Thai egg costs roughly W70 there, and even with tariffs, the price will be less than W100 in Korea, cheaper than the domestic price of W330 (US$1=W1,129).
Korea imported eggs from the US amid an unprecedented shortage due to the country's worst-ever outbreak of avian influenza early this year, but this is the first time Thai eggs will be imported.
