“Peter’s dedication to agriculture runs deep, and his passion for the egg industry is very apparent. Throughout Peter’s farming career, he has been a regular on numerous industry organisation boards showcasing his commitment to the success of the wider industry,” said IEC President, Tim Lambert.

“Peter presided as Chair of Egg Farmers of Canada from 2011 to 2017, where he helped to guide the organisation towards notable achievements, such as launching a Canada-wide on‐farm food safety program. He also helped set a new course for egg farmers in Canada through a national housing transition to phase out conventional production methods as well as created several research chairs within universities, which continue to focus on key issues facing egg producers in Canada.”

“Peter firmly believes in the concept of social license, and that as farmers we owe it to consumers to be transparent about how our foods produced, sharing knowledge of what producers do on farm, which has contributed significantly to the success of the industry in Canada.”

“He was instrumental in helping to bring egg production to Project Canaan in eSwatini through his work with the International Egg Foundation and is a very worthy recipient of the Denis Wellstead Award.”

Golden Egg Award for Marketing Excellence

Fenavi, Columbia

The Golden Egg award is presented to the best marketing and promotional campaign in the year leading up to the annual conference, and judges commended Fenavi for their 360-degree approach to marketing, with their message “Go for it! Everyday with the power of the egg” being effectively communicated to multiple key audiences.

Results from the multi-channel approach were impressive. Annual consumption of eggs increased by 10 eggs in 2018, with 53% of consumers eating eggs daily. In addition, Fenavi are actively working to reduce malnutrition in Colombia, and the judges wished them luck in their Guinness World Record attempt for the largest scrambled egg, which will see 15,000 vulnerable people gaining a meal on World Egg Day, Friday 11 October.
