NCC releases video on enhanced safety measures to protect processing plant employees
The US-based National Chicken Council released a new video outlining how the US chicken industry has enhanced safety measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.Using drone photography, you can see new perspectives from the inside of a processing plant and the essential workers who help keep grocery shelves and restaurants stocked with chicken.
The video features Ashley Peterson, Ph.D, the National Chicken Council’s Senior VP of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs. Dr. Peterson walks through the numerous safety protocols followed inside processing plants, including:
- Physical distancing
- Personal protective equipment
- Plexiglass barriers on lines
- Temperature monitoring for everyone entering the plant
- Hand washing and sanitizing stations
- Descriptive signs in multiple languages for clear explanations of procedures
- Dividers in break rooms
- Daily sanitation shifts
- On-site nurses
“Worker safety is not something that’s new to the chicken industry,” shares Dr. Peterson. “It’s something that has been part of our culture for decades.”
According to the NCC, the chicken industry is always looking for ways to improve safety across the supply chain. From farms and feed mills to the processing line to your kitchen table – everyone involved has been helping find innovative ways to safely and efficiently deliver the protein rich poultry you love.
