USDA Releases Cold Storage report - poultry and pork stocks drop lower

November 2020 Highlights

Total frozen poultry supplies on November 30, 2020 were down 16 percent from the previous month and down 10 percent from a year ago.

  • Total stocks of chicken were down 3 percent from the previous month and down 10 percent from last year.
  • Total pounds of turkey in freezers were down 48 percent from last month and down 12 percent from November 30, 2019.

Total red meat supplies in freezers were down 2 percent from the previous month and down 12 percent from last year.

  • Total pounds of beef in freezers were up 2 percent from the previous month and up 7 percent from last year.
  • Frozen pork supplies were down 7 percent from the previous month and down 28 percent from last year.
  • Stocks of pork bellies were up 21 percent from last month but down 58 percent from last year.

USDA will release its quarterly report on hog inventories on Wednesday. Analysts were expecting it to show the U.S. hog herd decreased by 1% from a year earlier.
