Vietnamese hotel group commits to using 100% cage-free eggs by 2025
Fusion Hotel Group is the first Vietnam-based hospitality brand to agree to a 100% cage-free egg supply chain by 2025.Fusion Hotel Group has announced that it is partnering with Humane Society International (HSI), a global organization working to protect all animals. The objective for Fusion, and HSI, is to improve animal welfare in its supply chain, by committing to sourcing 100% cage-free eggs, both shell and liquid forms, in all existing and future properties in Vietnam, and beyond.
Since its launch in 2008, Fusion prides itself on becoming a leading innovator of wellness-inspired hotels and resorts, and is presently the only fully vertically integrated hospitality company in Southeast Asia. All of Fusion’s operations running throughout Vietnam in Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon and Vung Tau will start implementing the use of cage-free eggs by 2021 and commit to 100% by 2025. With this commitment, Fusion Hotel Group will become the first Vietnam-based hotel and resort company to join the international cage-free egg movement.
Phuong Tham, HSI Vietnam Country Director, noted: “We are delighted with the commitment of Fusion towards a cage-free egg policy to help lead the way among hospitality companies to a higher standard of corporate-social responsibility for animal welfare in the country”.
HSI actively supports South East Asian companies, like Fusion Hotel Group, in the implementation of their animal welfare policies. This includes conducting regular corporate and producer technical workshops. Fusion’s commitment reflects what previous workshop participants stressed; the future is cage-free; thus, efforts must be maintained to enable this.
Samir Wildemann - Fusion’s Vice President, Operations shared “We are proud of our commitment to corporate social responsibility and responsible consumption, which includes animal welfare in our supply chain. There is a growing demand for higher welfare and quality products and cage-free eggs are a key example of humane and sustainable ingredients.” Fusion’s efforts to commit support animal welfare can already be noted in their Hue and Cam Ranh locations, as both properties utilize eggs from their very own farms, thus supplying fresh and cruelty-free ingredients to guests.
Battery cage systems are infamous world-wide for confining hens in tiny spaces, no bigger than an A4-sized sheet of paper, therefore, denied the ability to move freely. In Vietnam, the majority of hens are subject to such battery cages.
Fusion Hotel Group joins other multinational companies that have made similar commitments that apply to Vietnam and the rest of Asia.
