To address this unsustainable operating model, one year ago, world leaders in animal nutrition and health DSM launched We Make It Possible, a strategic initiative with a mission of leading a robust and achievable transformation worldwide in sustainable animal protein. Underpinning the initiative are six key focus areas aligned to the UN SDG’s of which tackle the globe’s biggest challenges, like climate change:

  • Improving the lifetime performance of farm animals
  • Improving the quality of food (i.e., meat, milk, fish, eggs), while reducing food loss and waste
  • Reducing emissions from livestock
  • Making efficient use of natural resources
  • Reducing the reliance on marine resources
  • Helping tackle anti-microbial resistance

Over the last 12 months, DSM furthered its commitment to making the industry more sustainable with the following launches:

  • Sustell™, the world’s first intelligent sustainability service made to improve the environmental footprint and profitability of animal protein production.
  • Once more delivering on its promise with We Make It Possible is the launch of ProAct 360™, an innovative feed protease that drives consistent improvements in poultry growth performance and reduces production costs, while making animal protein production more sustainable.
  • Bovaer®, a cattle feed additive which reduces enteric methane emissions by 30%, is helping to reduce warming of temperatures.
  • Veramaris®, an algae-based omega 3 oil, is helping to reduce reliance on marine resources and enable sustainable aquaculture.
  • Knowing that consumers relate yolk colour with nutritional value and health of the hen, DSM launched digital YolkFan™ Pro to give producers the reading capabilities of chicken, skin, tarso and egg yolk colour to ensure a better product for the end consumer, therefore reducing waste.

Over and above these launches, DSM has also shown its commitment to transform the industry through its acquisitions of Erber Group’s Biomin and next-generation eubiotics platform start-up Midori.

DSM's certainly not done yet - stay tuned for more exciting innovations that will transform the animal nutrition and health industry worldwide, creating brighter lives for all.
