Planterra Foods launches plant-based chicken cutlet
The Colorado-based company expanded its line of plant-based proteinThe True Bite Plant-Based Chicken Cutlet will be marketed under the brand OZO, and will be offered alongside Planterra's Plant-Based Chicken Shreds.
Planterra said the products stand out on the market as unique and comparable in flavour and texture to that of real-whole muscle chicken.
The products will hit grocery store shelves in the US in early 2022. They will be sold alongside fresh meat.
"As time goes on, the demand for protein will only continue to increase and the world won't be able to satisfy that demand with meat-based products alone," said Darcey Macken, Planterra Foods CEO.
"With chicken being the most popular protein in the United States, it was clear we needed to create a plant-based option where people don't have to sacrifice this mealtime favorite and have a healthier and more sustainable option," he added.
Chicken is the number one consumed protein in the United States, according to a March 2021 study, with consistent popularity in restaurants, pop culture and at-home kitchens around the country.
