World Egg Day will be celebrated across the globe on Friday 11 October. This year’s theme, ‘United by Eggs’, celebrates how the egg connects and unifies people from all corners of the globe.

Last year, #WorldEggDay achieved 129 million impressions across social media, with influencer campaigns, talk shows and social media cooking contests held to mark the special day.

World Egg Day 2024 will be celebrated around the world on Friday 11 October. This year’s theme ‘United by eggs’ emphasises how eggs can help to connect people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and nations, highlighting their universal appeal and essential role in global nutrition.

"World Egg Day is an incredible opportunity to recognise the nutritional value, economic contribution, and cultural significance of eggs across the globe," said Julian Madeley, CEO of the World Egg Organisation (WEO).

"This year we want to highlight the unmatched power of eggs to bring people together. Eggs unite people in many ways, whether that is through shared meals, cultural traditions or the joint pursuit of improved nutrition," he added. “Eggs are a vital part of diets globally, offering a widely accessible source of high-quality protein and essential nutrients. They play a crucial role in supporting healthy growth and development during all stages of life."

"World Egg Day can serve as a platform for bringing people together, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and promoting solidarity within communities around the world. We look forward to seeing how individuals and communities celebrate this year," Madelay added.

World Egg Day takes place every year on the second Friday of October. Celebrations began in 1996 and since then, World Egg Day has flourished and expanded. Last year over 100 countries worldwide participated, with many in-person events including a music festival, egg recipe master classes, and an extravagant sand sculpture created especially for the occasion.

To support egg businesses with celebrating, the International Egg Commission (IEC) has created an industry toolkit. This includes this year’s theme and key messages, social media graphics and inspiration from 2023’s activities. Following last year’s successful launch of the children’s activity packs, the IEC have created all new versions to help bring the younger generation together to celebrate World Egg Day.
