The memorandum was signed last week in ParisThe president of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), Ricardo Santin, and the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council (USAPEEC), Greg Tyler, signed a memorandum that establishes a cooperative effort to address issues that impact the global trade of poultry products. The memorandum was signed last week in Paris, according to recent press release from ABPA.
According to the document, both entities will work together to overcome issues that hinder the flow and impact the global supply of products, such as protectionism, health issues, among other policies. The agreement also involves the debate around the role of the World Poultry Council (acronym in English) and other issues of common interest.
Among the joint work topics cited in the document, topics include:
- Environmental or ecological sustainability as a guideline in poultry production and trade;
- Animal health, sanitary and food safety regulation based on the principles of sound science and appropriate risk assessment;
- Support for the continued development of the poultry industry and international trade;
- International relations based on cooperation and negotiation and mediation to resolve differences;
- Finally, the promotion of sound science and free trade;
The document establishes the holding of periodic bilateral meetings to encourage the exchange of information and the strengthening of actions, especially on topics such as animal health, availability of grains for feed and fuel, use and availability of water, biosafety, food safety, waste, waste management, the environment and others.
“We are competitors in the international market, but that does not prevent us from working together and cooperating on issues that are of interest to both countries, as well as to importing nations. Just like the great stage for global interaction, which is the IPC, the construction of high-level bilateral relations, such as the one we have built between ABPA and USAPEEC, are fundamental to strengthening free global trade,” says ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
