Demand for cheaper meat boosts chicken sales in Brazil
Chicken prices also on the riseQuotations of chicken products in Brazil increased in October, the third month in a row of price rises, according to a recent market report from Cepea. This scenario was observed in all regions surveyed by Cepea and is related to the firm demand for the chicken meat and to the increase of competitiveness compared to beef, since its values are on the rise. As a result, the demand for cheaper meats, including chicken meat, boosted sales in the domestic market.
Data from Cepea indicate that prices of frozen chicken meat traded in the wholesale market of the Greater São Paulo and in Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul) moved up 3.9% and 2.4%, respectively, from September to October, and the averages were at BRL 7.33/kg and at BRL 10.15/kg.
Concerning the chilled chicken meat in the wholesale market of the Greater São Paulo, values averaged BRL 7.33/kg in October, for an increase of 4% in relation to September. In Porto Alegre (RS), values rose 2.3%, at BRL 10.15/kg.
