Hungary looks back at a long tradition in poultry breeding. One prominent example is the family business Goldavis Kft., which not only keeps broiler breeders, but also has a hatchery: “My father and my grandfather both started rearing breeders independently from each other,” says managing director Gábor Kultsár about his family’s interest in poultry production, which has been prevalent for more than three generations already. He manages four modern poultry houses in Zalavár, just a stone’s throw away from Lake Balaton. When it came to the housing equipment, Kultsár brought Big Dutchman on board.

The Hungarian Big Dutchman agency Hatagro Kft. planned and realised the project on site.

Today, Goldavis Kft. is considered one of Hungary’s largest poultry breeders. One of the company’s specialities is the reproduction of older breeds for small customers: in addition to standard genetics, Goldavis Kft. also rears rare breeds, helping to preserve genetic diversity.

Kultsár is proud of his achievements. In the video linked below, he presents his family’s story of success and narrates how a small poultry farm turned into one of Hungary’s leading companies.

Praise

Kultsár particularly praises Big Dutchman’s male feeding system. “When you have a pan feeding system, you sometimes need to replace feed pans after just one year,” he says. “We opted for MaleChain because the system is so durable.”

The ideal nest

Breeder management is one of the most challenging aspects of poultry production. Not only regarding feeding and climate, but also with respect to the nests: farmers place great importance on making sure that the valuable hatching eggs reach the hatchery clean and undamaged. They also expect that nests to provide the hens with a quiet space for egg laying.

For the above reasons, optimally designed nest systems are made from materials that can be cleaned thoroughly and that ensure ideal hygiene – such as the Big Dutchman solution Relax, which Kultsár purchased. Last but not least: the hens accept the nest easily.

Ideal poultry climate control

Another factor that has a major influence on the birds’ well-being is the climate situation in the house. Kultsár uses the CombiTunnel ventilation system, which allows him to keep humidity, air quality and the temperature in an ideal range at any time.

The system is very flexible because it combines two different ventilation options under the same roof: side mode is activated when outside temperatures are low. For higher temperatures, the system switches to tunnel mode – smooth transitions guaranteed.
