Processor Seeks New Location in NC
NORTH CAROLINA, US - Despite local opposition, Sanderson Farms still plans to construct a processing plant in Nash County.A major poultry company says some local opposition has not derailed its plans to locate a 180,000-square foot plant in Nash County, reports Ventura County Star.
Citing The Rocky Mount Telegram, VC Star reports that executives from Sanderson Farms (based in Laurel, Mississippi) toured the area last week. The executives say they are still committed to bringing a plant to Nash County.
More than 30 residents of Nash and Wilson counties, along with the city of Wilson, have filed a lawsuit over the plan. They say Nash County's re-zoning of land for industrial development violates state law. Residents add that they are worried about the environmental effects of the plant.
CEO, Joe Sanderson, says the opposition is based on bad information.
The plant could bring roughly 1,100 jobs to the area.
