Three-month Trial Hen Welfare Scheme for Taiwan
TAIWAN – Minimum egg production standards will be available for farmers to trial for a three month period in Taiwan, despite possible market ramifications.

By: The cabinet level Council of Agriculture (CoA) released a statement on Sunday which targets non-cage laying birds, suggesting producers consider a change in welfare, regardless of what higher egg prices could mean.
When new rules are applied, a certification will be issued from industry groups and animal protection organisations, reports WANT China Times.
Adoption is not expected to come fast. Around 95 per cent of Taiwan’s eggs are from battery cages, the CoA said.
Consumers pay at least half the money for a battery egg than they do for free range in Taiwan.
