Turkey Reports First Bird Flu Outbreak for Seven Years
TURKEY - An outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed in a backyard flock in the north of the country.

By: The Turkish veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 4 May to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), reporting an outbreak of high-path avian flu in a backyard flock of 127 birds at Ikizciler in Kastamonu province, which is in the north of the country, on the Black Sea.
The outbreak started on 23 April. In all, 35 birds died and 92 were destroyed.
The presence of the H5N1 variant of the virus has been confirmed.
The last outbreak of avian influenza in the country's poultry was in April 2008.
