Pimples
Description
Pimples are small lumps of calcified material on the egg shell. Some can be broken off easily without damage to the shell while others may leave a small hole in the shell.
Incidence
An incidence of about 1% of total production is common.
Cause | Control |
---|---|
Thought to be caused by foreign material in the oviduct, which may be associated with: | |
Ageing of bird | Keep flock age as low as economically possible. |
Poor nutrition | Prevent excess calcium intake in winter. |
Strain of bird | Be aware that some strains may produce eggs with a higher incidence of this fault. |
